On the 21st of March we began tidying the area around the pond that had been built for amphibians. We got rid of superfluous plants so that the pond receives more sunlight now. We also created exposed and insolated places that will likely be used by sand lizards for sun-basking. We did this by cutting plants that we utilised for building ecological corridorS between the pond and neighbouring forest. This will enable amphibians to migrate between their summer habitats and breeding ground, which is located within the quarry. Probably some of the amphibians, but also reptiles and other animals, will use these structures for hibernation. Furthermore, we replenished the heap (which we have built during our previous visit) with compost.
