While scrutinizing the littoral zone of the pond we spotted several edible frogs (Pelophylax kl. esculentus). They are quite common here in Poland. We observed both juveniles which had undergone metamorphosis last year as adults that we expect to mate this spring.
It was a joyful surprise for us to find an adult female of a smooth newt (Lissotriton vulgaris) - a species that has not been observed in that pond before. She came here for breeding and she is a member of the tailed amphibians just like salamanders.
We hope to spot a male of smooth newt in the same location ornamented with a mating attire and show you his photos because it is a great sight.
