On that day, within Nowogród Bobrzański Quarry we saw mating European Common Brown Frogs, their spawn and Sand Lizard- this time a young female, judging by the size and coloration. In this common Polish reptile, sexual dimorphism (males and females differing in appearance) is particularly evident during mating season, when flanks of males become green. This mating dress plays a role in intrasexual signalling. Peak of mating season is ahead so we hope to capture a photo of such a beautifully colored individual and show you. Therefore make sure to follow our blog and Facebook page. As you might have guessed, common name of that lizard - “Sand Lizard” - comes from its predilection to sandy hence usually arid and insolated areas. Nowogród Bobrzański Quarry has such places, therefore that species is abundant here.
